Description
These fretboard dot inlay templates come as a 2-part set – one for the dot inlays on the face of the fretboard, and one for the inlays on the side of the fretboard or neck.
They are made from 3mm thick clear acrylic so you can see your fretboard whilst you work.
Each template is laser engraved with fret markings for the relevant scale length. These are a great help when lining up the template. In fact, because they are made from acrylic, you can shine a light on the edge of the template and the fret markings will illuminate!
The template for the face of the fretboard is notched at each fret, so you can actually use these templates for marking your frets. Just pop the tip of a pencil in the notch to leave a mark on your fretboard that you can use as a guide for sawing.
The holes are 2mm in diameter. Just big enough to get a bradawl through to mark the fretboard, and small enough to stay accurate.
The face template is 35mm wide, a common width used for cigar box guitar necks – but don’t worry, it works just as well with wider or narrower necks.
The side template is 16mm wide for ease of handling. The centre of each hole is set 3mm away from the edge so the dot lands in the centre of a traditional 6mm thick fretboard.
Available in a range of scale lengths to suit your guitar or other stringed instrument. If you’re not in the middle of a project, and you’re not sure what scale length to go for, here’s a quick guide:
- 24.75in – Gibson scale length
- 25.5in – Fender scale length
